Wellness That Works

Help from therapy dogs has become a popular, cost-effective option to improve employee wellbeing. The National Institutes of Health report that surging oxytocin (the feel-good hormone) triggered by the interaction between loving dogs and humans in the workplace promotes:

Improved morale and team cohesion

Improved trust levels among employees

Less physiological and psychosocial stress

Enhanced wellbeing

I see bringing therapy dogs into the workplace in the easy category . . . we demonstrate both a widespread symbolic acknowledgement of attention to the issue [of mental health] and, in a short period of time, literally change the chemicals that are running through our colleague’ bodies. Engaging with the Good Dog Foundation is an easy way to address something that’s actually very hard to tackle.

WORKFORCE WELLNESS THERAPY DOG VISIT FAQS

Does Good Dog provide Insurance for the visit?

YES. Each therapy dog-human handler team is covered with our liability insurance. Plus, a Certificate of Insurance (COI) naming your building owner provides $5 million per occurrence and $6 million in aggregate commercial general liability coverage.

How do we prepare for a therapy dog visit?

A conference room or other communal space is often the best place for a Good Dog visit. Some employees love to get down on the floor with the dogs, while others like sitting in chairs in a circle around a dog and its handler. Our human handlers can share insights about their volunteer therapy dog experiences. In addition to conference rooms, we do “walk-abouts,” visiting employees at their desks.

How are the dogs transported to our office space?

Good Dogs always arrive on a leash and remain leashed to their human handler during their visit. Our dogs are extremely well-mannered in any environment, easily accommodating to building lobbies, elevators, hallways, loading docks and freight elevators.

What safeguards are in place to protect our office space?

Our therapy dog-human handler teams work for one hour ONLY per day, which protects the dogs from stressing. All our dogs are groomed and walked prior to visiting your office. They are trained to work with extremely fragile patient populations in hospitals as well as schools, nursing homes, libraries and community centers.

How long do these events usually last?

On average, a therapy dog visit lasts for one to two hours, depending on the number of visitors, the size of the office, and the nature of the event.
